With her 10 plus years of collaboration at Bamboo Retreat Hotel, she is an experienced and trustworthy member of our team. With her intelligence, she supports in operating the hotel smoothly and overlooks all the areas: garden, guests and team.

Sunita is the energy force of our team since 2023. She looks after reservations and communications of our hotel and tour activities in the area www.sikkim.ch. Her diligence contributes to the satisfaction and happiness of our guests. Her hospitality and charming personality is essential within our team.

Bhawana is an edibles and perennial enthusiast, a passionate garden- andscape designer. She is entrepreneur with her own initiative farmEAT, farm/garden consulting company and recently starting ‘Edibles Academy’ to establish wider stakeholder collaboration in this sector. She has been collaborating with Helen since 2019 and accelerating in the same spirit to excel business. Helen’s and her visions align together in establishing bamboo retreat hotel as a self-sustained eco hotel.

Helen of Switzerland established Bamboo Retreat Hotel with her late husband in 2004 along with the travel agency Terralaya (www.sikkim.ch and www.terralaya.com) in 1999. She continues to manage tours & travels in Sikkim, Northeast-India, Bhutan and all over India. She strives towards fulfilling Bamboo Retreat Hotel’s aims. Her passion for ethnobotany and growing food organically is reflected at Bamboo Retreat Hotel and the tours she develops for her customers.

The Bamboo Retreat Hotel is idyllically embedded between terraced rice fields, lush green bamboo groves, gardens and streams by the hillside – on the other side you can see the capital Gangtok. You can reach Gangtok by car, it takes approximately 45 minutes. The hotel owns around 1.5 hectares of land, where a variety of native vegetables, flowers, medicinal plants, kulinary herbs and ornamentals are grown organically, using pricinples of permaculture, organic gardening and agroecology. We harvest and process by hand.

You are heartily welcome to try our organic farm-to-table seasonal Sikkimese dishes, uniquely prepared by our team. Additionally try Sikkim’s unique cuisine and spices, smell the herbs and use them to cook in line with the ethical cuisine of the ancient people of Sikkim, the Lepchas, the Bhutias and the Nepalese.
